Cheryl King, formerly acting coach at the award-winning daytime drama, All My Children, presents a new acting class. Learn how to "get out of your head" and start working from your whole body.
Vincent Irizarry, who won an Emmy in 2009 for his work on All My Children, says of Cheryl, "Cheryl's service and commitment as a dialogue and acting coach to many of us here at AMC has truly been invaluable. In a medium that's moving ever more at a breakneck pace, I'm particularly grateful to her for her spot-on insights, her pleasant accessibility to the entire cast, and her unquestionable talents as an actress/director."
Dear Cheryl,
The day after my first class with you, I was driven to call you and thank you from-the-bottom-of-my-heart, for a wonderful gift. You opened my eyes, and feelings, and helped me grow as an actor that very first day, by teaching me a concrete way of how to experience that state of being truly surprised through the work. Surprised by the feelings, thoughts, and actions that naturally come when preconceptions and expectations of 'how it should be' are let go. To be present. That is the gift. As it is said, "This moment is a gift. That's why it is called 'the present'."
I have always loved to hear award-winning actors at The Tony's thank their scene partners for the nightly surprises and unexpectedly thrilling moments of spontaneity. After 25 years as an actor, I feel I am at a new level and potentially able to give my scene partners this kind of gift. And that is directly because of your teachings.
I hope these words offer some justice, as i try to describe the extraordinary and unexpected value and benefit I am getting from your lessons. I am excited about my future as an actor and I am confident that working with you will help me reach my next goal of achieving an off-broadway role.
The details of your work are invaluable to an actor, seasoned or just starting out. I recommend every actor look into study with you, Cheryl. Any actor, of whatever discipline. I look forward to learning more from you.
Sincerely,
Gil Polk
