Cheryl King, in-house acting coach for All My Children from 2007-2010, developed a tried and true technique to help kids get to the heart of the material. Soap opera actors, including children, have to work quickly, and without much direction, just like in an audition. Cheryl was a favorite on set due to her ability to get sharp and believable performances on demand. Since leaving All My Children, Cheryl has made a name for herself coaching children from 4 to 18 for auditions.
Now Cheryl is offering ongoing classes for 5-9-year-olds on weekends. In these 1 ½ hour classes, your child will work on improvisation, with tried and true theater games, to learn how to be spontaneous and focused. Audition preparation will be included, along with cold reading work. Each student will work on monologues, and sessions will be videotaped, so that students can see the work from the director’s eyes.
One class will be offered each weekend, alternating Saturdays and Sundays.
The schedule will be:
Saturdays from 2-3:30 PM and Sundays from 11:30 AM to 1 PM
The first Sunday class begins on March 13.
The first Saturday class begins on March 19.
Students must sign up for a specific day for four classes (two months). The fee is $200 for four classes, to be taken within two months’ time. Students who miss a class may make it up on a different day during that two months’ time.
Your budding actor will be safe and supported in Cheryl’s classes. The parents of the children Cheryl coaches swear by her ability to get true and believable performances from their kids.
To register, contact Cheryl at cking3@gmail.com or call 212-838-2134.
Classes are held at Cheryl’s theater, Stage Left Studio, conveniently located at 214 West 30th Street, 6th floor, between 7th and 8th Avenues, one block south of Penn Station and near the A, C, E, 1, 2, 3 and F, M, N and R lines.
Alexa Gerasimovich, who played Kathy on All My Children, works with Cheryl before all her auditions. Alexa's mother Caroline says, "Cheryl King is an excellent acting coach. I saw a difference in my daughter's acting ability from the first time she began working with her. My daughter improves with every acting lesson and she is flourishing into a wonderful actress. Cheryl is truly amazing!"
Cynthia Keane says, "What a quick blessing you have become. Jack is responding in such a positive way with you. Thanks for your gifts"
Eva Kotch says, "All four of my kids love to work with Cheryl. Her ability to connect with them and get to heart of a character, a script, or an emotion in such a short amount of time is really incredible."
